Il Divo in Abu Dhabi, richful thinking

Everyone gets asked this at some point: If you had 5 million dollars how would you spend it? Three mortgages ago the friendlier me would have said "I'd give it to charity, the things I want can't be bought with money." Of course the answer to our problems is world peace, and then they crowned me Miss Universe. *Royal wave*

Jen Hawkins, not me

Things are more complicated now that I understand deeply what that dumb kid said earlier about money.

Heads:
I'd wipe my three loans off the face of the earth, leaving me enough to buy front row tickets for Il Divo in Abu Dhabi. They're pretty cheap compared to the airfare from Sydney! I could get a great low light camera and take loads of pics and videos.

But then what? As relieving as a debt-free life must be (I can only reminisce) it's such a boring way to spend this blessing. It wouldn't even make a blip in my internet banking.

Tails:
When I was very little, a church group gave my family a gift that allowed us to leave the refugee camp for Oz. The older I get the more frustrated I become wanting to do something just as earthshattering, and I don't think it's pre- mid life crisis talk.
Is it a valid fear of not paying it forward? I dunno. Sometimes this debt of conscience bothers me more than the three mortgages. You could do a lot with five million. Better play some Il Divo to inspire me.

Your family were refugees? Wow!
So you may not be filthy rich (who is?) but you do "pay it forward" in other ways, such as making me (and many others) laugh with your clever, witty posts. :)

Aww thanks Nat. I shall become queen of the el cheapo forward payment.

Yes we were one of the 'boat people', crossing the vast ocean on a dinky little boat. Lucky I was too little to remember the ordeal.

Well you could give a million or so to charity and then pick a bunch of us Il Divo fans to join you in Abu Dhabi and then with the rest we can hit all of their shows on the next world tour. Hopefully it will be in 2011. And maybe chase them around when they promote their next album.. (which I think they planned to start working on this month).. they hit all the talk shows all over the world. It would be lovely to sit in the audience and be groupies outside the studio doors. I'm trying to make up for never having been a groupie when I was younger.

Karen,
They're starting on a new album this month? Excellent...I was just thinking about songs they could do. Have you heard 'Prayer in the night' originally sung by Amici forever? It's very Il Divo-able.
Speaking of groupying it is tempting to tour europe with the band as markers. If only Oz wasn't so far away.....

They visit OZ every year. Seb found his wife there. Renee worked for Sony and they had a long distance romance for a bit and then she moved to Paris. They now live in London but her family is still in Melbourne and they go back to visit. You Aussies get all the good guys. LOL

Look on youtube for the interviews they did on Sunrise, the OZ tv show. The interviewer is the best and the interviews are a hoot. Search Il Divo Sunrise and see what comes up.

Karen Yes it's a sweet validating feeling that Seb is married to an aussie. :) Ah I didn't know they visit every year, just assumed they stay in France with their twins. Maybe this means australia will never get left out of their tour programs? Hmmm.
I saw that sunrise interview! What a bittersweet feeling that I missed out that whole promotional trip. Geez, I could have been at Warringah mall watching 3 songs. I saw on a fanvid slideshow when they performed at the Logies in melbourne 2 of them wore jeans, shock horror! Only in Oz :)

Oh..on the jeans..are you sure it wasn't just a sound check? They wear jeans then and then go clean up for the regular show.
There were a few Sunrise interviews. This one is where he asks if they are gay? So funny.

Then the other is when they are just on skype and Seb tells about stealing one of their women.. very funny.
They have done Australia each tour. Last one was in October. I was in Paris.. Seb & Renee were also there the Christmas before last to visit her family. I don't know why they live in London and not Paris. I'd pick Paris anyday. Urs also lives in London and I think David may have a flat there as well as in New York. Carlos I think stays in Spain when they aren't working.

Karen I scoured youtube last weekend for that melbourne Logies footage but no luck. :( I don't know if it was just a soundcheck, i think it's from a fanvid done to 'Ti Amero' and it starts with them on a ferry with a shot of the ocean waves.... i think

That sounds like one of David's videos. David took lots of videos the first few years of the guys on tour and side trips. He has one of them in Australia with Seb holding a koala. I think there's a link to the site on Il Divo.com but I'll see if I can find the vid for you.

Found the link...

The 2nd one is the one I think you were looking for and the one below it also says it's in Australia but very Japanese.

Thanks Karen, it's much clearer on Dave's page at it's proper size. It looks like a sound check. :( i only saw 1 audience member. 'Gum' the koala, the 5th Divo wins the Cutest title i reckon. He supplies the bass grunt.

Yes, the koala is cute but I don't think I've ever heard one sing. Bass, huh?
BTW, my id on Ildivo.com is Collagemaven.. on facebook it's Karen Larsen Graham. Feel free to "friend" me.
