Oh joyous day! Sylvester has arrived

At long last (3 weeks) my copy of the Sylvester audiobook has arrived at Aussie shores. I've arranged an early morning pickup at the local parcel post so that baby will be delivered into MY desperate sweaty hands from the post woman tomorrow 0630.

Review pending!

How sweaty will your hands be while listening to it, then?I read the book in the morning last summer and listened to the audiobook in the afternoon, sitting on the seafront... Remarkable experience! Enjoy your reading!

Ooops...Listening! And try to concentrate on the words ... I had some problems at the beginning ... that velvety sound disturbed my concentration!

Oh, I know exactly how you feel, ragtag.

I drive a school bus for our local district. Frequently, I'm off on sports trips with lots of time to kill -- like the wrestling tournament I drove to last weekend and had to sit at for 16 hours. Believe me I need to find something to do while sitting other than watch wrestling. So I take lots of books with me and also take my laptop to get on the web or watch DVDs or whatever. I've had a blast listening to Sylvester. The only problem I have is that I don't like being bothered in the middle of listening. "Oh, you need to drive back to the hotel to get your gym bag? I'll take you after this chapter is done." :D

I've only heard an excerpt from it, and I still don't remember what it was about because I kept losing myself listening to That Voice! Having the whole audiobook at your disposal - you lucky thing! RA heaven for hours on end! *happy sigh*

The CDs look so pristine in their box set, I feel a little guilt handling them. Knowing me I'll drop one and watch in horror as it rolls slowly around the bookcase winching itself between the wood and the wall.
This is why I can't have nice things.

Awww! Ragtag! You deserve nice things! Don't SAY that! Enjoy your lovely audio book while I wait impatiently for your review. I read Venetia and really liked it so I'd better go try and find a copy of Sylvester in the Library before I order the audio book. I think I would be like Traxy and totally lose track of the story while being entranced by RA's melifluous baritone which seems to reverberate in the core of my very being! (being somewhat over dramatic ;) but truthful!) LOL

He has the most beautiful voice I think I've ever heard, and I saw Richard Burton in Camelot, which was heavenly.

I too can't wait for your review, though, I enviously hope it's horrible. (yeah. you know it's not going to be.) I ordered it through my bookstore for a long drive from Washington DC to UT, but when I went to pick it up it was a LOT more than the listed price and I couldn't justify the cost. I hate my rational self!!

Phylly I knew it would happen and it did. After finishing CD1 i took it out of the stereo and ... whoops! Quick like a cat i caught it! Whew! RA disk lives scratch-free for another day.

Hi HaH, after reading your post about libraries, I have a proposal (if you still haven't got the audiobook yet). After i'm done listening to Sylvester I'll be your 'library' and lend you the disks, but in exchange you will review the audiobook too. Think about it, and let me know by email.

Still looking forward to your review.

I will just add this about my listening experience. The book is not my cup of tea, but in listening to it, Richard Armitage has endeared himself even more to me. His mimicry is wonderful. He could make a living just doing that. Also, he reminds me of my husband and my son who can do so many voices and frequently do. My son would love to be in something that required him to play multiple roles. But I'm letting him listen to some of Sylvester so that he might be inspired to do some audio. Yes, I think it's inspirational. Man, am I an obsessed fan or what? :D

I particularly loved his voices for Keighley, Tom, and the patrons at the Inn. Keighley was my favourite, though. I am about to start disc 2 of LOTN which I think is much better than Sylvester. (Hasten to add that I still enjoyed Sylvester particularly as a travelling companion in the car).

I would love to listen to Lords of the North, but the Amazon U.S. version is way too expensive. I can't quite cough up $100. I'm not that obsessed a fan.

But I understand I can buy it directly from the publisher at a reduced price. Not sure exactly where but I think I read that somewhere.

As for Sylvester, I actually found myself laughing out loud on several occasions even though the story is that not that great.
